The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday announced that they will continue their industrial action (strike) until the Federal government of Nigeria have meet their Requirements to call off the strike.

Reacting to the statement made by the Minister of Labour and productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, that the industrial action by the union is political, the Chairman, of ASUU University of Ibadan, Chapter Dr Deji Omole, Made clear that the ASUU strike 2019 was declared over alleged failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to fulfil the content of the Memorandum of Action it signed with the Union in 2017.

The contents of the Memorandum bordered on revatilisation and funding of universities, unpaid accumulated earned academic earned allowances, release of University staff pension company license among other issues. The Chairman, of ASUU University of Ibadan, Chapter Dr Deji Omole made clear that the ASUU Strike 2019 is not about politics or bringing down the Administration of Buhari is further state that,

It is ridiculous for the President and his Vice be asking Nigerian universities to become one of the leading universities of the world without making or creating g neccessary environment for Nigeria Education System to thrive on. The Nigerian President and its vice president need to make same commitments responsive and responsible governments in the world are making to education? Our leadership has shown consistent disrespect for agreements and this is why they can no longer be trusted by our union.”
